1What is it?

Liposuction removes stubborn pockets of fat that do not go away with diet and exercise, to improve your body shape.

It is a shaping treatment, not a weight-loss treatment. It works best when you are close to a steady, healthy weight.

2Is it right for me?

It may help if:

  • You have fat on the tummy, love handles, thighs, arms, back or under the chin that will not shift
  • Your weight is stable and you want a better shape rather than a lower weight
  • Your skin is reasonably firm (if skin is loose, a tummy tuck may suit you better)

3How is it done?

  1. The areas to be treated are marked while you stand.
  2. A special fluid is placed in the area to reduce bleeding and discomfort.
  3. A thin tube removes the fat through tiny cuts.
  4. The area is shaped evenly, and you are fitted with a compression garment.

4Recovery

  • Expect swelling and bruising at first; a compression garment helps it settle.
  • Gentle walking is encouraged early. Dr. Swathi will tell you when you can return to work and exercise.
  • Your new shape becomes clearer as swelling goes down over the coming weeks.

5Is it safe?

Dr. Swathi plans every procedure to keep risks low. Still, it is good to know the possibilities:

  • Possible issues include uneven contour, fluid collection, infection and changes in skin sensation.
  • Rarely, blood clots can occur after surgery — walking early and following advice reduces this risk.

6What affects the cost?

  • Number and size of areas treated
  • Type of anaesthesia and theatre time
  • Compression garments and follow-up

Consultation: ₹500 — you get a clear, full cost before you decide.

7Other options

  • Diet and exercise for overall weight
  • Non-surgical fat reduction, for small areas — ask whether it suits you
  • Tummy tuck, if loose skin is the main concern

8Common questions

Will the fat come back?

Fat cells that are removed do not come back, but the remaining fat cells can grow if you gain weight. A steady weight keeps your result.

Can I lose weight with liposuction?

It is not designed for weight loss. It is for shaping specific areas once your weight is stable.

Good questions to ask at your consultation:

  • Am I a suitable candidate for liposuction?
  • What result is realistic for me?
  • What will recovery involve, and when can I return to work?
  • What is the total cost, including follow-up visits?
